Guidance for individuals

Get Recognised. Get Connected. Get Growing.

At SocEnv, we’re here to support you as you kickstart and grow your career in the environmental space, no matter what your journey looks like. We get that careers aren’t always straight lines…they often come with twists, turns and obstacles, responding to new technologies and opportunities.

That’s why we created the Entry Level Environmentalist (ELEnv) register. It’s for people who have developed awareness and environmental knowledge but haven’t yet built up all the experience needed for the professional registers like REnvTech, REnvP, or CEnv.

With ELEnv, you’ll get:

  • A support network to help you work toward higher professional titles (within 3 years).  ELEnv acts as stepping stone to reach the register of your choice.
  • Post-nominals (ELEnv) that show your passion and dedication to environmental work and professionalism.
  • A pathway that includes guidance through one of SocEnv’s licensed professional bodies.
  • Access to a community that’s here to guide, inspire, and grow with you.

By joining, you’re not just building your CV, you’re investing in a future where your voice, your values, and your work can actually change things.

Ready to join a community of change-makers, problem-solvers, and environmental pros?

Let’s get started.

You Have Two Options:

1. Check Your Eligibility

Review the eligibility criteria listed below. If you meet the requirements, simply contact one of the licensed members, using the link titled ‘SocEnv Licensed Members’.  They’ll help guide you through the next steps, by reviewing your qualification (ensuring it meets the level and content requirements) and guiding you through the application.

2. Explore Qualifications and Courses that provide eligibility

We’re compiling a list of courses and qualifications that automatically meet the eligibility criteria for applying to ELEnv, regardless of the provider or your prior experience. To view this list, click the link on this page titled ‘Courses & Qualifications‘.  If your qualification isn’t on the list, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not eligible.

Please reach out to the Licensed Member, who can confirm your eligibility and guide you on the next steps.  They’ll ask for details about the qualification you’ve completed and any relevant experience you may have.

Are You Eligible to Register?

We’re excited that you’re considering registration with ELEnv.  To get started, please make sure you meet the following criteria:

  • ✅ You’re a qualified individual member (or equivalent) of a Licensed Member organisation. This means you’re already covered by that organisation’s Code of Conduct and disciplinary procedures.  This needs to be with one of SocEnv’s Licensed Members.
  • ✅ You’ve achieved a qualification with environmental and sustainable content at RQF Level 2 or higher (or equivalent) in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland.  That’s a level 5 or higher in Scotland and a level 4 or higher in Ireland.  Need more advice on this? Check out the link under ‘Useful Links & Application Support’.
  • 🌍 Applying from outside the UK? We’d love to hear from you! If you’re not sure whether your qualification fits, get in touch with us here and we’ll help you out.
  • ✅ You’re happy to follow the Society’s Code of Professional Conduct.
  • ✅ You understand that ELEnv registration is valid for up to three years, during which time you’ll need to progress to REnvTechREnvP, or CEnv.

If that sounds like you, you’re ready to take the next step!

Cost

To be awarded Entry-Level Environmentalist, you need to be a member of a professional body licensed to award it.  They will be able to advise of the total costs, including membership and registration.  You can find out more about each Licensed Member using the link on this page ‘Explore SocEnv Licensed Members‘.
