At SocEnv, we aim to empower more people to join the environmental professional community. As more learners enter the workforce through Further Education, Higher Education and Independent Training Providers, we’re committed to ensuring they have clear, accessible routes into professional registration.
One of our key focuses has been creating new pathways to registration, so that individuals at every stage of their career, including early and emerging, can understand how professionalism supports their development and strengthens the environmental sector.
Making Professional Registration Visible and Accessible
To help learners, apprentices, educators and employers understand the value of professional registration, we created a dedicated website. It brings together information, advice and guidance in one place, supporting informed choices and clearer career pathways.
As our engagement with education providers has grown, a common request has been:
Can you provide something we can put up in classrooms, training rooms or student spaces?
We know how powerful visual prompts can be. Posters can spark curiosity and signpost learners to trusted information that can shape their future. As we want more people to discover these routes, enabling wider access is important to our work.
Balancing Impact: Our Footprint and Our Handprint
As an environmental-focused organisation, how we create resources matters just as much as why we create them.
Every activity has a carbon footprint – the greenhouse gases produced through things like energy use, travel or materials.
But we also consider our carbon handprint– the positive impact of actions that reduce emissions or help others do the same.
When we produce something with a carbon cost, we ask:
Does the positive impact outweigh the footprint?
In this case, by helping more people enter environmental careers and strengthening professional standards across the sector, we believe the handprint is significant.
Thoughtful Design, Responsible Materials
With that in mind, we chose to approach our posters with care. We created two posters:
- one promoting the pathways to environmental professional registration for apprentices
- another introducing the Entry-Level Environmentalist (ELEnv) register for those beginning their professional journey
Each design uses clear, universal messaging and QR codes linking back to our website, allowing us to keep information current without reprinting materials.
Sustainable printing choices
With design and guidance from a Brand Consultant, James Kindred (who has also supported us in the build and design of this website), we used the World Land Trust scheme to select a Carbon Balanced Printer. You can find our more about this scheme here – Carbon Balanced – Paper & Print
With James’ guidance we were able to select a Carbon Balanced Printer – Healeys. Alongside this, we selected an innovative, environmentally responsible paper: Alga Carta.
Alga Carta reuses excess algae from fragile marine ecosystems. It is designed to reduce reliance on virgin tree pulp and turn an environmental problem (algal blooms) into a resource. The tactile finish, complete with natural seaweed flecks, serves as a subtle reminder of the ecosystems we’re working to protect.
Purposeful Distribution
To avoid unnecessary printing and wastage, we’re distributing posters directly to educational providers who want and need them. This ensures every copy has a purpose, a place, and an impact.
If you’d like a poster for your institution, campus, training room, please get in touch through the contact form on our website. Alternatively, please download the digital versions by clicking on the poster icons below.
